DIVERSE LEARNING: aes's international Elementary School program

Children who belong find a secure place in the world. It opens their hearts and minds to learning and caring for the rest of their lives.

"Nurture deep connections with students, model compassion, and explicitly teach the values of kindness, tolerance and open-mindedness."

Dalai Lama at AES 2016

So this is where we begin. We are a diverse community of learners and we strive to ensure that everyone has a sense of belonging, is recognized for their strengths and feels loved. Each face and name matters to us. We have designed spaces that honor each student’s learning style while allowing our students to explore their interests and meet their academic goals in an environment that is flexible and community-oriented.

The Elementary School aims to foster curious, responsible, and caring global citizens. We believe that children thrive in an environment that is warm, caring and rich with resources and opportunities. Our students engage in experiences that develop a strong foundation in academics, the arts, world languages and physical education. AES Elementary School students are encouraged to pursue their passions, to explore new ways of thinking and to discover multiple solutions to rich problems.

Cultivating students with strong social and emotional skills is an important focus of our work in the Elementary School. We encourage a socially collaborative environment where students are viewed as thinkers who explore, make choices and make mistakes as part of the learning process. Our approach to student behavior helps students to understand how they can meet their needs using a variety of strategies to make appropriate choices. We value a school community where all students feel safe, have a sense of belonging, and find success.
